AN OVERVIEW OF FRUIT SUPPLY CHAIN IN MALAYSIA

This paper presents an overview of fruit supply chain in Malaysia. This study attempts to provide a clear view of fruits supply chain in Malaysia with reference from previous studies conducted in other countries. Roles of different actors in the functioning of the fruit supply chains are presented. The paper adopts a case study approach, with data collected through interviews and observations. The findings identify the fruit supply chain is similar between independent farmers as well as contract farmers as a producer with main actors along the supply chain consist of the producers/farmers, collectors/wholesalers as intermediaries, retailers and consumers/customers. Any differences between those are mainly in the level of concentration among participants at each stage in the chain. Value of this paper arises from providing a detailed analysis of a fruit supply chain in the developing world whereas there have been only a small number of studies published in the literature.References
